Directions
Tharpaland IRC is located in Southern Scotland and although remote, it is only 12 miles from nearest town of Dumfries and is easily accessible from around UK and worldwide.
Approx Travel Times:
- 2.5 hours North of Manjushri KMC
- 2 hours South of Glasgow and Edinburgh
- 4 hours from Manchester Airport
- 4 hours from London by train to Lockerbie or Dumfries
Tharpaland is located up a farm track 2 miles long, so if you are arriving by bus or by taxi from the train station we can pick you up from the main road if you have arranged this in advance. For further directions please contact info@tharpaland.org or telephone 01387 860618.
Arriving By car
Coming from Dumfries on the A701 go to Parkgate. Turn left to Parkgate at 'Clark Engineering'. Drive straight ahead to Kirkmichael Church. Just immediately past the church on the right is a track on the bend. Take this track, this is the track leading up to Tharpaland. When you arrive at the track, please phone before proceeding up the track to check if any vehicles are on their way down as it is a single lane track.

arriving by bus
There are good bus services daily from both Glasgow (X74) and Edinburgh (100) to Dumfries which stop at Parkgate. There are also regular trains to Dumfries or Lockerbie from around the UK which are just a short taxi journey to Tharpaland.

ARRIVING BY TRAIN
The nearest train stations to Tharpaland are Dumfries or Lockerbie. Both train stations are approximately 50 minutes from Tharpaland by taxi. Taxi rate is approximately £16 - £20 to Kirkmichael Church, Parkgate. Click here to book train tickets.
Arriving By Air
The following airports provide simple transfers on to Tharpaland:
- Glasgow International - About 2.5 hours travel time (bus to city centre and then X74 bus to Parkgate)
- Glasgow Prestwick - About 2.5 - 3 hours travel time (travel by train and /or bus to Glasgow city centre, then X74 bus to Parkgate).
- Edinburgh - About 2.5 - 3 hours travel time (travel by bus 100 from Edinburgh to Parkgate)
- Manchester International - About 4 hours travel time (trains from the airport to either Dumfries or Lockerbie train stations)
IF YOU REQUIRE PICK-UP FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE TRACK
Please let us know in advance if you don’t have a car, in order to arrange a pick up at the bottom of our track as taxis won’t drive up the track. We would appreciate it if you could give us at least 48 hours notice for this service.
